Why commercial drains need a different approach

Commercial drainage systems deal with higher and more varied volumes than most domestic properties. A restaurant may send grease and food debris towards its drainage network. The consequence of a blockage is also different. Build a planned maintenance programme

Reactive drain cleaning has its place. A blockage in a busy restaurant, retail site or office needs resolving quickly. However, planned maintenance reduces the likelihood of urgent closures, contaminated areas and out-of-hours disruption.

The right frequency depends on how the premises are used. A commercial kitchen with regular grease production needs more frequent attention than a low-occupancy office. Keep the right materials out of the drain

Kitchen teams should use suitable strainers, remove food scraps before washing up and follow a grease-management process appropriate to the premises. Washroom areas need clear disposal arrangements, particularly in public-facing buildings. External teams should keep gullies clear of leaves, packaging and site debris rather than sweeping it towards the nearest drain.

It is equally important to avoid unapproved chemical drain cleaners. If water is backing up, isolate the affected area where possible and arrange professional attendance rather than adding more chemicals to the problem.
